Classes at BIY :)

Signed up for the Halloween themed cupcake decoration classes at BIY. An enjoyable class with new information and techniques learnt.

My Favourite Birthday Strudel

A lovely heart-shaped Apple Strudel for my dearest friend's birthday!
Apple Strudel got to be my most frequent bake! I absolutely love the taste of it... N they simply make a perfect desert!

Another attempt at ... ...

This should be my 2nd attempt at making Nonya Dumpling. This time round the taste was better but still not good enough. Hope to improve on it in 2013! :)

All in a Day's Baking

10 June 2012: Another baking day spent with a dear friend. Mini Cheesecakes that looked great in the oven but collapsed once it cooled down. I remember they tasted quite ok though. Savoury cheese & ham scones which are really worth a 2nd, 3rd and many many more bakes to go with tea for tea breaks. And my usual Tollhouse cookies to end off the day! :)

Muffin Overload!

PL came over to my place after midnight on a Saturday in May and we made banana muffin and 2 different types of blueberry muffins in 4 hours... It was simply muffin overload!

The brown muffins that you see in the picture were way too sweet while the whitish one was too bland. Haha...

Had a great time baking after a long break. Shall chase away my lazy bug and plan in more time to do so before my work schedule gets busy again...

Happy Valentine's Day! :)

I love these cookies with the melt-in-mouth texture! They were easy and quick to make too. Made these for my dear friends on Vday and most of them liked it. But... there is a milky taste which I feel that not everyone might enjoy. Here is the recipe which I got from a blog. I made the choc chip version which were really good!

On the very same day, I attempted this red berries tray bake with cheesecake ripple which I got the recipe from another blog. I thought it sounds good but when I made it, they were way too sweet and was not what I expected.
Fortunately, the German cookies saved my baking day on Vday eve! :)

My oven is back in action!

My oven came home after repair, just in time to spend CNY with me. And if I remember correctly, I started baking again on 11 February 2012. I made yummy Cinammon Rolls again (though I was not very satisfied with the texture, they still taste good!)!

Along with the Cinammon rolls, I made baked rice for dinner. I tried to be healthier and ommitted some seasonings and..... it ended up being too bland...
But overall, it was still a good start for my oven!

Rowenta Oven (26/07/08 to 31/12/11)

After close to 3.5 years, my dear oven gave up on me on 31 Dec 2011... it celebrated my New Year by tripping my home electricity, turning my home into pitch darkness when the clock was about to strike 12mn! Haha...

It still looks to be in such good condition that I can't bear to give it up! Shall try to check out the servicing cost... and hopefully, it will be working again soon. But for now, with no oven, it's a break from baking for me. Perhaps time to pack my baking materials (equipments, books, etc etc). :)

November in the Kitchen

Heart-shaped Apple Strudels for Birthdays! Recipe from Creative Culinaire Class. Yumz... I think I am getting better at working with doughs. :P

Cinammon Rolls (http://happyhomebaking.blogspot.com/2011/09/magical-rolls.html): These are really good and easy to make! Well-liked by everyone who tried it! :)
Healthy Pasta with pre-packed Japanese sauce + some chicken & mushroom added.

That's my time spent baking & cooking in November... :D

A GIft

I love the little animals which I pasted around the box and I hope they will help to comfort and cheer up my dear friend with their smiles... :)

Anyway, what goes inside the box is another batch of vegan choc cupcakes...
I managed to find another recipe for a vegetarian cupcake from Allrecipes.com (http://allrecipes.com/recipe/vegan-cupcakes/detail.aspx) and gave it a try by replacing 1/4 of the flour with chocolate powder. I made other replacements such as using white distilled vinegar, soy milk and olive oil also. I accidently cut back on the amount of sugar used too.

I actually made a first batch of vanilla cupcakes using this recipe and they taste of flour and look like 'huat kueh'. Haha... But this batch of choc cupcakes tastes better. I like the taste of soy milk actually... But I think I still prefer normal cakes afterall. :)
